The great thing about this “competition” is that you are essentially choosing between three of the best options out there, and that means that you will end up with a good option no matter what. However, when you are having a hard time choosing the right solution for your business, a good old fashioned comparison is always a great way to go, and that is exactly what we will be doing today. If you want to read a WordPress vs Joomla vs Drupal comparison, then definitely make sure to keep reading this article until the end.
As we already mentioned, we are going to be doing a comparison between these three platforms today and we are going to be taking a look at a few different things:
- Ease of use,
- Design and functionality
- SEO, support and security.
But, before we take a look at any of that, we are going to take a more general look at all of them. All three platforms are actually quite similar to each other, which makes it easy to see why they are all at the very top.
Firstly, all of them are open source and free of charge. This means that the price isn’t a deciding factor, which is great. Since they are all open source, they all depend on outside developers to help them upgrade the solution, and thanks to this they all have a great community behind them to help them out, and help you out as well if you ever need it. They are all pretty similar when it comes to the design as well because they all offer templates and themes, which makes the building and design processes much easier, and plugins and extensions are also available for all three.
Now that we have taken a look at how they are similar, we are going to do the WordPress, Joomla and Drupal comparisons in order to see how they differ.
Ease of use
The first thing that we are going to talk about is how easy the platforms are to use, and we have to say that there is an immediate difference here. For example, when it comes to the installation process, we were able to see that WordPress is the quickest one to install. It only takes about five minutes of manual installation, while both Joomla and Drupal take around 10 minutes.
This isn’t a huge difference, but we all knew we would grasping for the smallest things here. Another thing that we have to take a look at is how beginner friendly they actually are, and again WordPress is the clear winner again.
It is very easy to use and it has the simplest interface and we can easily say that it gets full points from us. Then we move on to Joomla and while it is still pretty easy to work with, we still had a much easier time with WordPress, so we have to take some points from there as well. And lastly, we have Drupal which is by far the most difficult to use out of the three and this is mostly because it does require some coding skills, which is something that most beginners don’t have. In this round, WordPress takes the points.
Design and functionality
The next thing that we will focus on in this CMS comparison is the design and the functionality of the solutions. And now, we don’t want to spoil anything, but we can easily say from the very beginning that WordPress is the clear winner yet again. This solution has over 4500 free themes and over 9000 premium themes, and all of them have been designed specifically for WordPress.
Then, we move on to Joomla and you may be surprised to hear that they don’t have a template directory, but they do have around 1000 premium templates that you can get via ThemeForest, but no matter which way you look at it, you don’t have a free option at all. Lastly, there is Drupal with 2000 official themes, as well as around 500 premium ones at ThemeForest.
Then, we move on to the functionality aspect, and here we are focusing on the plugins and the extensions that are offered, and again WordPress is the clear winner, offering over a whopping 50.000 free plug ins that are all specifically designed for them, plus thousands more that are paid for that you can find online. Joomla only has around 7500, and while this is a huge number, the truth is that compared to 50.000 it seems like nothing. Lastly, Drupal will also offer a solid 37.000 different tools at the Official Directory.
SEO, Support and Security
The last thing that we are going to take a look at in this WordPress vs. Joomla vs. Drupal platform comparison is SEO, security and support, which are all incredibly important. All of the platforms have been created using certain standards for security, however even with that Drupal is considered to be strongest platform of them all in terms of security, while the other two can be secure if you handle any security issues carefully. When it comes to support, we can easily say that all of them are even because of the fact that all three are open source and have large communities that will be able to help you out whenever you need anything. And when it comes to SEO, WordPress is definitely at the top since it is the one that started off as being a blogger platform. If you want to make the other two more SEO friendly, you will have to add some extensions in order to do that.
As you can see, even though all three platforms are so similar, they all have their differences, as this Joomla vs. WordPress vs. Drupal platform comparison showed us. From this article you can see that WordPress is the “winner”, however make sure to check the rest out as well because they are all incredible and worth your time.
